Updated Financial Requirements as per IRCC
As of January 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) mandates that study permit applicants demonstrate sufficient funds to cover tuition fees and living expenses. The minimum financial requirement for a single student is CAD 20,635 per year, excluding tuition. For accompanying family members, additional funds are required:
- First accompanying family member: Additional CAD 4,000 per year.
- Each subsequent family member: Additional CAD 3,000 per year.
Proof of financial support can be demonstrated through various means, including:
- Proof of a Canadian bank account in your name, if money has been transferred to Canada.
- A Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from a participating Canadian financial institution.
- Proof of a student or education loan from a bank.
- Your bank statements for the past four months.
- A bank draft that can be converted to Canadian dollars.
- Proof that you have already paid tuition and housing fees.
- A letter from the person or school giving you money, or proof of funding paid from within Canada, if you have a scholarship or are in a Canadian-funded educational program.
